Earlier this year, The New York Times wrote that Teach to One: Math is “perhaps the most comprehensive attempt yet to personalize math.” Today we’re excited to announce that more than 10,000 students at 28 district and charter schools will get just that: a completely personalized, world-class education tailored to the unique needs of each and every student.
Our 2015-16 expansion sites include schools in four new cities — Oakland (CA), Denver (CO), New London (CT), and Passaic (NJ) — along with new sites in current partner cities — Atlanta (GA), Chicago (IL), Washington DC, Elizabeth (NJ), and Jersey City (NJ). Six charter schools are now included in the Teach to One: Math network. We’ve also added our first partnership school that specifically serves gifted and talented students.
Each of these schools exhibited key characteristics that we look for in a partnership school. Our partnerships with them evolved based on a shared commitment to innovation and high quality personalized learning at all levels. District administrators, school leaders, and (most importantly) teachers from all of these schools were deeply involved in the exploration process throughout the spring and worked diligently with us over the summer to ensure a smooth school launch.
We may add a few more sites before too long. Several districts and schools have expressed a interest in launching a partnership during the current school year. For those districts or schools interested in joining the network for 2016-17, our partnership application form is now live. We look forward to engaging with district, charter, and independent schools throughout this school year to identify next fall’s incoming partners.
Back in 2009, we began our work by serving 80 middle school students at a summer school in Manhattan. Serving 10,000 students nationwide is a significant milestone for us. While there is still much for us to learn and improve upon, this is a shift into a new phase of Teach to One: Math. We are deeply grateful to the pioneering schools that have helped the model to evolve, to those who provide financial resources in support of our work, and to our team that each day proves we can accomplish what some thought to be impossible.
